The Virtues of the First 10 Days of Dhul-Hijjah

1st&2nd Dhul-Hijjah 1438H

Bismillaah
Wednesday&Thursday, 23rd&24th August 2017

As Dhul-Hijjah comes we were thinking of how to make one of the special months in Islam worth knowing for the girls. So, for the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah we planned on the girls to learn more about this month.

This first meeting the girls were learning about the virtues of the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah.

“What do you think of Dhul-Hijjah?” I asked the Starters A1 girls.

Right away Safina answered, “Qurban!”

“Qurban! You’re right. What else?”

“What’s puasa?” Somebody asked, then her friends answered, “Fasting,”

“Let’s do Qurban…let’s do Qurban..,” suddenly someone rhymed our famous qurban’s rhyme. ^^

Ketika sedang membicarakan tentang idul adha and idul fitri, Qiara kemudian bertakbir yang diikuti oleh teman-temannya, “Allaahu Akbar…Allaahu Akbar…Allaahu Akbar…laa illa ha illaAllaahu Akbar…,”

“Miss..miss..I was afraid of the animals because of the blood,” Nazwa talked about her experienced of watching the slaughtering.

“The first 10 days of Dhul-Hijjah is loved by Allaah…,”

“What are the good deeds you can do in these 10 days of Dhul-Hijjah?”

“Zakat!” Salah satu anak menjawab, saya lalu menjelaskan bahwa zakat tidak dilakukan mendekati hari raya idul adha seperti zakat fitrah di hari raya idul fitri.

Tak lama anak-anak mulai menjawab, “Charity….takbeer,” dan mengingat pelajaran mereka di bulan Ramadhan, “Smile,” ^^

After that I handed the girls the paper strip where they were going to write the good deeds.

“We are going to learn about Dhul-Hijjah, the Hajj, and ‘Eid-ul Adhaa!”

Ketika saya tanyakan tentang keistimewaan bulan Zulhijjah ke kelas Movers A1, dengan nada dramatis Zahra menjawab, ” The cows are dying….,”

I actually meant for Hajj or in English pilgrimage, “How do you spell pilgrimage?”

“P-I-L-G-R-I-M-A-G-E,” We spelled together.

“Fasting, give charity, pray….,”

The same like Starters A1 class, Movers A1 girls also wrote all the good deeds they could do in the first 10 days of Dhul-Hijjah.

All the girls were so eager to write that every time they finished writing one good deed they right away asked, “Can I have another paper strip, please?”

Then bragged about it to their friends, just like Nisa did, “I already write 5,” ^^

Keesokan harinya di kelas Flyers A1, saya mengawali dengan coba menjelaskan tentang arti kata virtues. ^^ “It’s different from other months,” I said.

“Special,” Caca finally found the closest word to explain about virtues mean.

Hearing about the word Azra complained, “Ramadan also special!” ^^. Of course both months are very special for all Muslims around the world.

Kemudian tentang bukti keistimewaannya di surat Al Fajr…. “I still memorise soorah Al Fajr!” Syahna said. Then we recited together the whole soorah. ^^

“What cross your mind when I say about Dhul-Hijjah?”

Since they are they highest class, they didn’t need any another clue, “Qurban?”….then finally, ” Hajj!” Caca found the exact event.

Setelah mereka mengetahui keutamaan sepuluh hari pertama bulan Zulhijjah, saya bertanya, “So, what are the good deeds that we can do during this first ten days of Dhulhijjah?”

Everybody mentioned kinds of good deeds.

“Read the Qur’aan… give charity… fasting!” They replied enthusiastly.

Then for their exercises, they need to write sentences in past form and future (be going to) form as we learnt before.

They asked for the paper strips to write, “Can I have the paper strips, please? ” I replied, “Yes, please” while handling the paper strips.

I asked them,”Are you ready?” They chorused, “Yes, inshaa’Allaah!”

“OK, 1,2,3…. start! “

They began to write the sentences. When the time was over, they stopped to write and we checked together.

Alhamdulillaah everybody could write few sentences correctly. ^^

At the same time as Flyers A1, in Movers B1 class I started by explaining about the proof of the importance of the first 10 days of Dhul-Hijjah.

“Soorah Al Fajr!” They said, then the three of them read the first two verses of soorah Al Fajr, “وَالْفَجْرِ….وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍ،”

By fajr. And by the ten nights.

Then just like the other classes about the good deeds they can do during that days.

“Not like in ‘Eid-ul Fitr, we can say the takbeer from the beginning of Dhul-Hijjah until tashreeq days,” I explained to them.

“Then what else?”

The girls answered, ” Read Qur’aan….give charity…,” and when they couldn’t find another answer, I gave them clue, “This good deed only can be done on 1st until 9th day of Dhul-Hijjah. We can not do it on 10th, 11th, 12th, or 13th… What good deed is that?”

They thought for a while until finally Amirah said,”Sawm?”

“Maashaa’ Allaah baarakAllaahu feeki!”

” What is sawm in English?”

“Fasting!!!” Amirah, Yana, and Amirah answered together.

The three of them took the chalk and started to write on the blackboard.

Take a look at the blackboard few minutes later! ♡♡

Annisa insisted to write that she memorised the Qur’aan this morning and refused to change the time that she has used since she did memorised it this morning. *smile. May Allaah azza wa jall increase her knowledge and ease her to apply it in daily life. Aameen yaa mujibas sa ileen. BaarakAllaahu feeha.

Last but not least, one of them gave charity for that day. Alhamdulillaah!

Alhamdulillaah, the first day of learning about Dhul-Hijjah has made the girls really excited of doing a lot of good deeds. How about you? Let’s do a lot of good deeds on this months especially the first 10 days of this month! ^^
